——————————————————-
This Japanese style straight razor is named “Yūrei-zu” after the traditional Japanese art featuring ethereal spirits of lore. I named this style of kamisori after this because the translucent and holographic layers of gold and brown patina have a haunted and spiritual look, reminiscent of Japanese ink abstracts atop weathered paper.
Start your daily shave with a traditional Japanese straight razor.
Each of these kamisori (pronounced kamee-sori – カミソリ) are hand forged one at a time, with respect to traditional Japanese razor smithing.
The razor grind is traditional, and oriented to a specific hand – either right handed, or left handed. Though, with practice, you can shave with either side once you build the muscle memory and skill.
The blade hollows have my Yūrei-zu finish, with one side proudly stamped with my Japanese maker’s mark.
The handle has been formed by hammer and anvil, forged in fire, and the blade spine is polished smooth, making stropping a breeze.
Each kamisori is 100% unique, and no two share the exact same handle pattern, though the blade is ground to exact precision for a keen shave.
As easy to use as a straight razor, with experienced straight users picking up the technique quickly.
The traditional grind is extra keen and smooth shaving – just wipes away hair.
Blades are shipped secured to a simple basswood plank, and come with a storage box. While this is mainly for shipping purposes, this can be used to keep your razors edge protected when stored in a drawer, or you can mount it to a wall for display.
For additional protecting, the firescale “blacksmith’s” finish ( called kurouichi ) is left untouched, and the entire razor protected with a special wax.
This razor is a high performance, all-steel shaving blades, honed to perfection on Japanese water stones to 15,000 grit.
If you’d like the tip of the razor to have a different point, I’m happy to customize it to your preference: round, barber’s notch, french point, tanto, or square. Just select the version you prefer from the menu.
This razor has passed my high-standard shave test, and then washed with soap and warm water, bathed in disinfecting Barbacide, and bathed in 90% isopropyl alcohol. The razor is treated with a with a long-lasting moisture barrier to ensure rust resilience during use, and shipped with a light coat of oil.
My goal is to get folks settled in a straight razor shaving. If you’re not 100% happy with the razor just send me a message.
A re-honing certificate is included with your purchase. Just mail us your razor with your receipt, and I’ll re-hone it once for free (a $40 value).
Strop Kit Details:
A timeless strop design, providing a complete stropping kit for your daily-use straight razor. The total strop length is approx 20″ with a 2″ width.
Made with U.S.A tanned leather (a higher grade than most other maker’s fine leather), it sets a fine edge on your razor shave after shave.
An great strop, perfect for learning the “x-stroke” with your straight razor. If during stropping you do make a minor cut, the thick leather is forgiving, and small cuts can be sanded away without any compromise to the functionality.
