This razor is a collaboration between the customer and I, where motifs and artwork from the game “Witcher” were used to create a kamisori razor with a longsword motif.
Outside of the creative liberty and interpretation this project offered, I love the mix of metals, and the facets all over the piece that catch light in interesting ways. Joy to use, but also a sight that walking past while in the workshop was quite enjoyable.
To communicate the longsword nature of the project we incorporated a brass casted pommel, dropped spine (swage) to which markings extracted from the video game were engraved in the steel, we did a french point, and leather wrapped handle.
Meant to be used for daily shaving.
The finish I used on this steel is called “Yūrei-zu” after the traditional japanese art featuring ethereal spirits of lore. I named this finish so, because the translucent and holographic layers of gold and brown patina have a haunted and spiritual look, reminiscent of japanese ink abstracts atop weathered paper.
This Kamisori (pronounced kamee-sori – カミソリ) is a design that I offer in a variety of leather wrappings and tip shapes. The grind on these razors is symmetrical, so the razor can be used in either hand with ease.
Each of these kamisori are hand forged one at a time, with respect to traditional Japanese razor smithing.
Each kamisori is 100% unique, and no two share the exact same handle pattern, though the blade is ground to exact precision.
