Tempest – Kamisori with Hitachi Blue #2 Steel, Custom Engraving – Custom Straight Razor

Specially forged from traditional high carbon steel imported from japan into one fine shaving blade.

This steel comes from pure sand irons in Japan, at Hitachi’s Yasugi plant in the Shimane Prefecture.

This Blue steel is also called Aogami #2, or super blue paper #2 since the steel is wrapped in blue paper when it’s sent to blacksmiths.

This steel is rarely used in the U.S.A due to availability (a limited supply entered the borders a few months ago). Very happy to get some.

Features a high carbon content at 1.10 ~1.20 C, with 0.20 ~0.50 Chromium and 1.00 ~1.50 Tungsten.

Each of these kamisori (pronounced kamee-sori - カミソリ) are hand forged one at a time, with respect to traditional Japanese razor smithing.

The razor grind is western style - so you can use in either hand with ease.

The handle has been formed by hammer and anvil, forged in fire, and the blade spine is polished smooth, making stropping a breeze.

Each kamisori is 100% unique, and no two share the exact same handle pattern, though the blade is ground to exact precision for a keen shave.

As easy to use as a straight razor, with experienced straight users picking up the technique quickly.

The traditional grind is extra keen and smooth shaving - just wipes away hair.

Blades are shipped secured to a simple basswood plank, and come with a storage box. While this is mainly for shipping purposes, this can be used to keep your razors edge protected when stored in a drawer, or you can mount it to a wall for display.

For additional protecting, the firescale "blacksmith's" finish ( called kurouichi ) is left untouched, and the entire razor protected with a special wax.

This razor is a high performance, all-steel shaving blades, honed to perfection on Japanese water stones to 15,000 grit.

A kamisori with an engraving the customer and I developed, which I called “tempest” . Somewhat damascus in appearance, it was extracted from japanese artwork and engraved to the steel.

I intend to do many more of these.
