A western version of the traditional kamisori, with a symmetrical double hollow grind.
Each of these kamisori (pronounced kamee-sori – カミソリ) are hand forged one at a time, with respect to traditional Japanese razor smithing, and this one in particular is inspired by Sheffield England style razors, with iconic barber’s notch, sturdy thumb notch, and spade tail.
The blade hollows have a fine polish, with one side proudly stamped with my maker’s mark. The handles have been formed by hammer and anvil, forged to the appearance seen above, and the blade spine is polished smooth, making stropping a breeze.
A very easy to use kamisori, highly beginner friendly, with the veteran shaver will enjoy adding this to their daily routine.
The blade is shipped secured to a simple basswood plank. While this is mainly for shipping purposes, this can be used to keep your razors edge protected when stored in a drawer, or you can mount it to a wall for display (store with the “ShaveSmith” side up, as shown). For additional protecting, the firescale “blacksmith’s” finish ( called kurouichi ) is protected with a wax.
These are high performance, high carbon steel shaving blades, honed to perfection on traditional Japanese water stones to 15,000 grit.
